Tokyo is always the main go to for anyone visiting Japan, a modern city with a touch of traditional Japanese culture here and there. Usually everything that Japan wants to present to the world and visitors will be found here. Such as Disneyland, Tokyo Tower, Shibuya Square, and many museums and gardens. Most people usually spend their whole trip exploring every nook and cranny in Tokyo.
Sort of the opposite of Tokyo in terms of what it wants to show, focusing instead on traditional culture with small areas of modern things. Here there will be many gardens, local restuarants, zoos and aquariums and many small events hosted by the people there. This is where you want to go to experience classic Japanese culture.
Akihabara is a place within the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo, mainly known as "Electric City". Here is where you wanna do all the shopping for knick knacks and collections, since there is a shop literally every 10 steps from each other, sort of like one giant electronic mall town.
